[00:00:00] [SPEAKER_03]: You're listening to episode 227 of The Marathon Running Podcast. In this episode, we're going to give you some tips on how to find the best running shoe for you.
[00:00:16] [SPEAKER_03]: This is The Marathon Running Podcast by Letty and Ryan from WE GOT THE RUNS.
[00:00:21] [SPEAKER_03]: Join us in our running community for weekly content that is motivational, educational and inspirational
[00:00:26] [SPEAKER_03]: and let the Marathon Running Podcast take you from the starting line to the finish line and beyond.
[00:00:38] [SPEAKER_03]: Hey renters, welcome to episode 227. My name is Letty.
[00:00:41] [SPEAKER_02]: My name is Ryan.
[00:00:43] [SPEAKER_03]: And we are back again this week with more running talk and in this episode, we're going to give you some content about running shoes.
[00:00:51] [SPEAKER_03]: Mainly the reason being because I have been doing a ton of shoe reviews on YouTube and stumbled upon some questions from our audience on what you really look for when it comes to running shoes.
[00:01:04] [SPEAKER_02]: That's difficult, yeah there are so many out nowadays. Also like I was, we were talking about earlier before the podcast is that we should look as many reviews as possible when you're looking for shoes.
[00:01:16] [SPEAKER_02]: And then you can gravitate towards the people that seem to give you the information that you like but we always would encourage people to look up as many reviews as you can or you feel tolerant of.
[00:01:28] [SPEAKER_03]: Exactly and for that reason we are bringing you it's Matt B, a YouTuber who does shoe reviews multiple times a week.
[00:01:46] [SPEAKER_03]: And we're talking about this topic of what to really look for when it comes to a running shoe.
[00:01:51] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah so also in terms of the running equipment, it's probably one of the more pricey things that you buy and so it isn't it is a little bit cost prohibitive to just buy a bunch of running shoes and try them all out and then throw away the ones you didn't like.
[00:02:05] [SPEAKER_02]: I mean even in the past it would be cost prohibitive but now shoes have gotten even more expensive I feel like.
[00:02:12] [SPEAKER_03]: So it makes it even harder. Yeah exactly with the rise of the vapor fi in when was it 2014-15ish that was the first time we saw a shoe at the outrageous price of $250 and now that's kind of almost the norm for your quote unquote racing shoe that you want to have because those shoes don't really last very long.
[00:02:31] [SPEAKER_03]: You can get about 200 miles on the shoes and then they start breaking apart and along with the rise of the price for the vapor flies and alpha flies and everything else.
[00:02:41] [SPEAKER_03]: The daily trainers have gotten a lot more expensive too so yeah it's one of those things that you can't just have a bunch of and as Ryan said it's good to hear multiple opinions.
[00:02:50] [SPEAKER_02]: I think the shoe price thing might be a product of the popularity of running. It's a supply demand right if more people are getting into running and attending marathons and companies probably realize that people will be willing to pay more money.
[00:03:05] [SPEAKER_02]: I don't know maybe it's also inflation or other things.
[00:03:09] [SPEAKER_02]: So that is nice that you can maybe give a different perspective as most of the reviewer seem to be guys.
[00:03:15] [SPEAKER_03]: I agree Ryan.
[00:03:17] [SPEAKER_02]: You would agree.
[00:03:19] [SPEAKER_02]: So everyone should check out let it is YouTube shoe review to see if it's the type of review they like and maybe they'll get information from it.
[00:03:27] [SPEAKER_03]: Absolutely thank you Ryan.
[00:03:29] [SPEAKER_03]: Alright so our guest as we mentioned is Matt B and we talked to him about quite a few things when it comes to what we're looking for in running shoes.
[00:03:40] [SPEAKER_03]: We talked to him about a few brands what brand are known for.
[00:03:45] [SPEAKER_03]: We talked a little bit about the running shoe experience building your shoe rotation and some other stuff beyond basic.
[00:03:53] [SPEAKER_03]: So Ryan are you ready to hop into today's shoe review?
[00:03:55] [SPEAKER_02]: Let's get in it.
[00:03:56] [SPEAKER_03]: Alright so without any further ado I'm now going to play my conversation with Matt B.
[00:04:06] [SPEAKER_03]: Alright so I'm on here with Matt B. Matt thank you so much for joining me today.
[00:04:10] [SPEAKER_01]: Thanks, love it.
[00:04:11] [SPEAKER_03]: So perhaps before we start asking you the general shoe question and then going to specifics but you can tell us who you are what you do and how you end up with all these running shoes.
[00:04:22] [SPEAKER_01]: Okay well okay yeah my name is Matt Bertrand I review running shoes on YouTube.
[00:04:27] [SPEAKER_01]: I put shoe content on Instagram and picked up and basically my social media is centered around running.
[00:04:34] [SPEAKER_01]: I say any run if you're listening to this podcast then you are a runner and you probably have an affinity towards running shoes.
[00:04:43] [SPEAKER_01]: I also do I just make it my business to review them so hopefully someone that watches my videos can find out how the shoes work for me and if and possibly if they could work for someone who's thinking about buying them.
[00:04:57] [SPEAKER_03]: Alright so let's talk a little bit about finding the right shoe when it comes to running shoes.
[00:05:02] [SPEAKER_03]: Let's just go to the basics. What are we looking for when you're just saying purchasing a running shoe?
[00:05:09] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah ultimately it comes down to comfort and the comfort is the absolute number one thing and I think for us runners we can sometimes get swayed by companies marketing and even shoe reviewers, you know it's fun for me to review to super shoes.
[00:05:25] [SPEAKER_01]: I have some props in front of me you can't see it if you listen to the podcast but I have some props so I can see the shoes that they want to talk about and one of them is the alpha fly three.
[00:05:35] [SPEAKER_01]: And you know that's a hype shoe and you see all these reviewers reviewing the shoe it's very expensive.
[00:05:41] [SPEAKER_01]: It makes people run faster obviously the world record has been met in that shoe of world record in the marathon is held in the alpha fly three, but that doesn't mean that it what's going to work for everyone.
[00:05:51] [SPEAKER_01]: So if you are getting started and let's say you have no idea what type of running shoe to run in it's probably going to be best that you start with something a lot more even killed.
[00:06:02] [SPEAKER_01]: And I want you to go into a shop I want you to try them on so you can just see how the step in pillars does it your heel well, you know is there enough room in the toe box.
[00:06:13] [SPEAKER_01]: These are all things that are the most important first of all before we get into like measuring performance and things like that.
[00:06:20] [SPEAKER_03]: Okay, perfect so we go into the running store and how in your experience are running stores when it comes to measuring your foot what do they do for the runners.
[00:06:31] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you know it's been so long since I have been in a running store I think it's important for new runners to go into a running store but let's say.
[00:06:42] [SPEAKER_01]: You know, okay so running stores have kind of built their business around selling running shoes but also a lot of them at least the bigger ones are put you on a treadmill they will analyze your cake.
[00:06:52] [SPEAKER_01]: And then from there they'll kind of come up with a formulation of what shoe is going to work best for you and that may or may not be true.
[00:07:01] [SPEAKER_01]: It seems like it seems to me that it's a little bit of hype and that might be that might be controversial to say.
[00:07:11] [SPEAKER_01]: But let's say that you over-prone a lot this is when it's going to work well because if you have if you've just started running and then you go into a running store and you run on the treadmill and it shows that you are over-pronating then maybe a stability option is going to be right for you.
[00:07:25] [SPEAKER_01]: However, the store is only going to lead you to the brands that they sell and a lot of stores don't sell every single brand so you're kind of pigeonholed to buy whatever stability shoe they have in stock.
[00:07:38] [SPEAKER_01]: Now this means nothing if you're just getting started but now with so many running brands out there they all put so much R&D into their shoes that you are not stuck with one shoe.
[00:07:50] [SPEAKER_01]: So my recommendation if the return policy allows if you are financially able to have more than one pair of running shoes is to try several and then decide on what works best.
[00:08:03] [SPEAKER_03]: That sounds like a great idea and thanks for pointing out that you know I know that running brands can't all be in one store.
[00:08:09] [SPEAKER_03]: I know there's certain rules to it and our local town recently fleet feedback about a bunch of running stores and I think it was because they otherwise couldn't have competition selling certain brands.
[00:08:21] [SPEAKER_03]: So with that let's hop into different shoes for different runs, but can you tell the average runner about that.
[00:08:29] [SPEAKER_01]: Okay so this is also it's a luxury that I have because I get to review running shoes and you know before we started the podcast letter you and I were talking about how many running shoes is too much.
[00:08:42] [SPEAKER_01]: And you know that number doesn't exist that's the that's the stock answer but.
[00:08:48] [SPEAKER_01]: I think you are probably going to need if you're racing, I think you're probably need three pairs of shoes to be like to cover all your bases to be ideal so you're going to have a daily trainer can have something with maybe a little more cushioning something that is just.
[00:09:17] [SPEAKER_01]: I think about those 10 pro runs maybe those in the ball runs and I should say right now let me but I'm a long distance runner so I favor the marathon I like the half marathon.
[00:09:31] [SPEAKER_01]: I like short distances and that even less so my race calendar around the year is going to be a few half marathons and a few marathons so that's the that's the angle that I'm coming up my running.
[00:09:44] [SPEAKER_01]: And then if you can swing it a race day shoe is really going to benefit you possibly and I say possibly because there are some non responders out there that just don't respond to all the technology, the cup and plates.
[00:09:59] [SPEAKER_01]: But there are so many out there now that if you can just try a few one I think it's possible to find something that works for you.
[00:10:05] [SPEAKER_03]: I agree and I agree with you we are kind of lucky with the whole having multiple running shoes I agree with you that having multiple shoes can also kind of mix it up a little bit right because.
[00:10:16] [SPEAKER_03]: You want to have faster more responses shoes for your temper runs and then when you do your basically trotting pace long runs.
[00:10:24] [SPEAKER_03]: That calls for a different shoe and then racing I mean I think racing should always be special so it's nice to have something that's more popular super lightweight that unfortunately isn't as durable.
[00:10:35] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I agree it's nice to have something special on race day it just makes the whole event just a little more fun to have a shoe that you have saved that day now of course you have to train in that shoe you know no one wants to go out and run.
[00:10:48] [SPEAKER_01]: Immediately in a new shoe that you haven't tried before.
[00:10:52] [SPEAKER_01]: But it's still fun to put on that race day shoes it's just a shame that they're so expensive and you know can hold back some people but it's not the end of the world because a lot of companies will make.
[00:11:03] [SPEAKER_01]: And then they're you know they're called super trainers or even some up tempo.
[00:11:08] [SPEAKER_01]: Kind of just under the race they kind of level there are a lot less expensive than race day issues and I think they can perform very well.
[00:11:17] [SPEAKER_01]: At races if you don't want to spend that premium price of 250 dollars.
[00:11:22] [SPEAKER_03]: Yes, no exactly it's it's fortunate that brands are becoming more aware at the same time I feel like just like everything else in life right now has been rising in price and running tos unfortunately just another product.
[00:11:36] [SPEAKER_03]: You know in the beginning they always said running is so cheap and here we are.
[00:11:40] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, here we are yeah it's.
[00:11:42] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, when you have to spend $250 you know on the shoes that you're going to run the race in and now we're looking at hundreds and hundreds of dollars to enter these races the big amount of funds.
[00:11:53] [SPEAKER_03]: It gets away from cheap pretty quickly exactly exactly so that since you do review a broad arrangement of brands perhaps you can kind of give us a little bit of an insight to what brand.
[00:12:08] [SPEAKER_03]: Feels like or would would brand has for what runner.
[00:12:13] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's that's actually a good question and it's not it's there's not an easy answer because right now we're seeing a lot of brands expand we're seeing.
[00:12:23] [SPEAKER_01]: We've got like the legacy brands if you will like Nike and Adidas and so can he but.
[00:12:30] [SPEAKER_01]: You know Nike and Adidas have been like the big competitors over the years but now obviously we've got a six we've got so many on has been huge.
[00:12:39] [SPEAKER_01]: Hoka of course is massive ultra boomer I'm kind of I'm looking over here I'm looking past the cameras I'm talking to you like you can look in at my shoe or 360 one degrees Solomon.
[00:12:53] [SPEAKER_01]: There's just there are a lot of shoes out there and runners are spoiled for choice so to say you know what company is best for a runner I don't think that's an easy answer because there are going to be a range of shoes.
[00:13:05] [SPEAKER_01]: That are going to work better for some runners now if we talk about Hoka that's kind of a big company right now, you know they they have been just going through the roof people tend to really like him on the whole I think Hoka's are fairly soft.
[00:13:18] [SPEAKER_01]: So if you like that soft appeal on the run I think Hoka's might be a good starting point for you.
[00:13:26] [SPEAKER_01]: Typically in years past on running has had fairly firm running shoes now that has changed as they're moving forward.
[00:13:34] [SPEAKER_01]: They've gotten away from that firmness and I think they have really opened up their kind of market reach because they've got a wide range of shoes for everyone and now on you can run in something.
[00:13:43] [SPEAKER_01]: You know slightly firmer to just plush just like you know Hoka or anything else.
[00:13:51] [SPEAKER_01]: Let me see what else I mean yeah basics asics has their kind of their premium top of the line race day shoe so I ran the Boston marathon in the asics metas speed.
[00:14:06] [SPEAKER_01]: It's metas speed Paris metas speed edge Paris sorry there's so many shoes to keep the names and I thought that shoe performed absolutely fantastic it's it was super soft it was responsive it fit my gate very well.
[00:14:20] [SPEAKER_01]: I just I got nothing but great things to say about that shoe and then you've got other people that are going to run around in a Nike shoe because that it's then better.
[00:14:31] [SPEAKER_01]: So it comes down to just finding out what works best for you and for me to tell you what brand is going to work for a certain runner it's I'm beating around the bush, but it's impossible.
[00:14:44] [SPEAKER_03]: You're so right, especially you know since you noticed that a lot of brands while they had been known for something softer or something harder they've now brought in out so it's harder to pinpoint but I agree with you that in general Hoka.
[00:14:57] [SPEAKER_03]: I mean for me makes a great recovery shoe however now there's the Hoka's yellow ex which is a racing shoe which is lighter which has a carbon plate so yeah that's that's really hard to pinpoint but.
[00:15:08] [SPEAKER_03]: What about your recommendations right so say you have a runner that wants to have three shoes one is for speed run one is for a long run that's easy and then a racing shoe what are some recommendations and you can you know switch brands and give us a couple of them.
[00:15:27] [SPEAKER_01]: Okay well I think to make a recommendation it's going to depend on how people run and I think that you know I'm going to assume that you know the listener knows how they run are they a heel striker are they a fourth at striker and you know they can decide from there.
[00:15:45] [SPEAKER_01]: I am absolutely a heel striker especially when I'm running slow so I tend to strike more mid foot the faster I run so especially in a half marathon I'm going to be landing a lot more mid foot than I do when I'm out for an easy run.
[00:15:58] [SPEAKER_01]: I find when I run a marathon you know towards the end of the race I start to get a little tie to start to get a little sloppy and I'll start heel striking again.
[00:16:07] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't think it's necessary to change if you're a heel striker that's that's how you run that's fine just by running more you are going to become more efficient in running how you run but let's see a recommendation so.
[00:16:20] [SPEAKER_01]: Because I review a lot of running shoes they come across shoes that are that's called like the premium daily trainer segment and they're quite expensive they're probably $160 like right in that range and we're talking about things like the basics nimbus.
[00:16:37] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm sorry yeah the john nimbus the accumulus things like that but are very heavily padded they're fairly heavy and they work well for easy runs but I think it's a little over the top.
[00:16:52] [SPEAKER_01]: And I've also got to just had a little just a side note that I live in Florida as as you do to a lady and it's very hot here so when you run in a heavy shoe like that you sweat.
[00:17:04] [SPEAKER_01]: That shoes soaks up all that sweat and then it becomes even more heavy and sometimes it can become very unpleasant so I tend to like the lighter daily trainers and I think there are enough at least for me so right now the shoe that I haven't even made a review about it yet.
[00:17:22] [SPEAKER_01]: But I've been running in the Brooks Hyperion 2 and for me that just that is just such a beautifully made shoe it's fairly light it can pick up the pace it is protective enough to run easy for long runs but it's kind of light.
[00:17:39] [SPEAKER_01]: And you can just do so much in it and I think it's a good all rounder for a lot of people now you've also got the Brooks Ghost which is their daily trainer kind of middle of the line daily trainer.
[00:17:50] [SPEAKER_01]: But it's so much heavier and it's so much more restricted in what it can do so if you want to shoe that you're just going out for one or two runs a week maybe you want to mow the grass in the same shoe you know you could go with a Brooks Ghost.
[00:18:04] [SPEAKER_01]: And if you want to have a little more performance maybe the Hyperion 2 is the way to go.
[00:18:11] [SPEAKER_03]: Okay, I agree with you actually on the Hyperion that's one of my favorite running shoes for the exact same reasons in Florida we don't have the luxury of having this padded tongue on the shoe because it just soaks up your sweat and then it just gets nasty.
[00:18:25] [SPEAKER_03]: But yeah, so what about your favorite racing shoes your personal favorite racing shoes and then also from the running community what have you heard is a good racing shoe.
[00:18:37] [SPEAKER_01]: Well, you know, if no matter what shoe that I talk about I always find that there are people that hate it and people that love it.
[00:18:44] [SPEAKER_01]: So at the moment I would say my favorite is the shoe that I ran the Boston marathon in it's the basics.
[00:18:52] [SPEAKER_01]: Metaspead Edge Paris that just works well for me there's also the Nike vapor fly free which works extremely well.
[00:19:01] [SPEAKER_01]: Let's see I've got the on cloud runner sorry the cloud boom echo three and the on cloud we make a three I raised a half marathon in it was perfect for me for that distance.
[00:19:13] [SPEAKER_01]: However, at the marathon I need a little different geometry because of along that races and it's a little more protective so while the cloud boom echo three was perfect for that half marathon where it's very fast you know relatively speaking for me when I want to when I run the marathon.
[00:19:31] [SPEAKER_01]: I want something a little more cushioned. I want the plate to have a little more of a curve in it so I for me it starts it works well if it starts high in the heel and then comes down to the fourth it rather than having a plate to go fairly straight.
[00:19:45] [SPEAKER_01]: So if you think about the Nike vapor fly free versus the alpha fly free the plates shaped different.
[00:19:53] [SPEAKER_01]: And so while I love the alpha fly three but the marathon I would probably choose the vapor fly just because of the geometry of the plate and the midsaw.
[00:20:02] [SPEAKER_03]: Okay, so comes down to personal preference again, but yeah, thank you for pointing out those few shoes and you know I think I used to be on the train of Nike Nike only and that was because I had found it.
[00:20:15] [SPEAKER_03]: So I was able to show that worked for me this is like 10 years ago and so I was just like we were talking earlier online order them and then when I was able to receive more shoes.
[00:20:25] [SPEAKER_03]: I opened my eyes a bit more to see that wow there's something beyond Nike and now I have no problem switching from shoe to shoe however when it comes to clothing I always have like an issue when you know you're you wearing Nike shoes but then you have a decent shorts on and that kind of thing how do you feel about all that.
[00:20:44] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you know I'm not a fashion guru people are going to do what they're going to do and I get the personal preference like if you know but people my age we grew up either liking Nike or a deetus and that's that's hard to get past.
[00:20:59] [SPEAKER_01]: Although it's totally missed place today because if you are just going on performance and look if there were no brand being on the shoes there are shoes equally as good as Nike shoes and way better you know Nike isn't the king of running shoes anymore.
[00:21:15] [SPEAKER_01]: Socany makes some fantastic just world class shoes on especially asics I mean there are so many brands out there that make just top quality shoes that you know you can't get over your natural inclination to like a brand because they have done what brands are supposed to do they're supposed to kind of.
[00:21:35] [SPEAKER_01]: Indeed themselves to for one reason or another but from a performance standpoint it's it's silly there are so many could choose out there exactly yeah that's that's funny.
[00:21:46] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah all right so so my last question do you would be I guess just about the latest two trends and technologies what have you seen out there and what do you think.
[00:21:55] [SPEAKER_03]: Is it going to happen is there going to be more things like the carbon plate coming out or you know I've seen some shoes adding the carbon plate to a recovery shoe etc for you know instead of.
[00:22:07] [SPEAKER_03]: Bringing us more stability what are your thoughts on that.
[00:22:10] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah I think it's we're not going to get away from played shoes anytime soon it's still fairly new you've got to think that um you know it was only 2017 the first.
[00:22:21] [SPEAKER_01]: Carbon plate was put in a shoe cost Mazuna was doing it long before that with their way of play but yeah the plates and shoes are just going to continue if not for.
[00:22:33] [SPEAKER_01]: Performance than for stability because you've got to think of these super light responsive phones they almost need a plate in order to keep them together so when we're going lighter we're going to need that plate for more structure so.
[00:22:46] [SPEAKER_01]: We're not going away with that I think maybe more brands will experiment with.
[00:22:51] [SPEAKER_01]: Like dual plates and a different plaything systems like the added S prime X to strong they have three plates.
[00:22:59] [SPEAKER_01]: The hooker picked on X has dual plates so they kind of they run parallel to each other and I think that's the direction that we're going to go.
[00:23:07] [SPEAKER_01]: Of course the whole max stack height thing there's everyone's on that band right now that is that will probably correct just and I don't think that's a you know I'm not a profit I just think that's going to be the cycle we had a couple years ago was barefoot running you know I never got into that.
[00:23:26] [SPEAKER_01]: Braze but now we're seeing everyone in as much stack height as they can get to how to come for is it necessary I don't know I question it a lot of the time.
[00:23:36] [SPEAKER_01]: But I know that I do prefer more cushioning than less cushioning so I think we'll find that middle ground.
[00:23:42] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but it's an exciting journey to be on and you know we get to try these shoes try them out first and see how they are.
[00:23:51] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah absolutely and Matt what are you thoughts about the durability of shoes right because shoes like we knew them in the early 2000s they were all heavy at the same time the rubber down there was super resistant you could run in them for like a year picking back up and.
[00:24:08] [SPEAKER_03]: You know everything was still as is and now we have the shoes and they were down pretty quickly especially with the foam but they still last a little bit and then we have the ratios that only supposed to last 200 miles.
[00:24:20] [SPEAKER_03]: What are your thoughts on that and are there any brands that make shoes a little bit more durable still.
[00:24:28] [SPEAKER_01]: Well my thoughts on it are that you know we need to protect the environment and it's absolutely ridiculous that we live in a throw a culture where you know,
[00:24:36] [SPEAKER_01]: so indeed this is um evo pro is a one ratio and it costs $500.
[00:24:43] [SPEAKER_01]: It's exciting but it seems I don't know irresponsible to from an environmental standpoint.
[00:24:52] [SPEAKER_01]: However you know these these businesses they're selling them you know these brands that making shoes and people buying them so it's going to be tough.
[00:24:59] [SPEAKER_01]: To stop there.
[00:25:02] [SPEAKER_01]: Of course the reason that shoes don't last as long is because shoe brands are trying to make them lighter and lighter and lighter in order to save weight which makes them faster which makes more people by them so it's it's kind of a vicious circle.
[00:25:13] [SPEAKER_01]: I've gone back to the on cloud boom echo three like right on the box it says that this shoe is good for 100 miles.
[00:25:21] [SPEAKER_01]: I think that's what it says so a couple of marathons and then and then what it's it no good well.
[00:25:27] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't think so like maybe it's not it's it's it's best but you can still use these shoes so.
[00:25:34] [SPEAKER_01]: I think we do need to replace our shoes regular intervals but.
[00:25:40] [SPEAKER_01]: There's just there's a tendency to with the shoes getting lighter that we have to throw them away sooner and sooner and then they want you to so you can buy another one.
[00:25:49] [SPEAKER_01]: But generally speaking the training shoes are going to be more resilient and they're going to last a lot longer so if you are just normal runner you don't worry about racing or you don't worry about saving a couple of grams on your ratio.
[00:26:01] [SPEAKER_01]: You're going to be able to invest in shoes that do last a little longer and that's going to be brands like.
[00:26:09] [SPEAKER_01]: I can't even say a brand.
[00:26:11] [SPEAKER_01]: Um, who is excellent.
[00:26:13] [SPEAKER_01]: So I say I can't say a brand and then I immediately say a brand.
[00:26:16] [SPEAKER_01]: Who is excellent with a boomer group?
[00:26:18] [SPEAKER_01]: It is it's incredibly grippy and it seems to last a long time.
[00:26:23] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm just looking at the bottom of some of my shoes.
[00:26:27] [SPEAKER_01]: Socany has a lot of good out-saurober.
[00:26:31] [SPEAKER_01]: You know, it's.
[00:26:33] [SPEAKER_01]: It's really hit miss and it's always the top end shoes that are going to have less rub on being less durable so.
[00:26:40] [SPEAKER_01]: If you're buying those shoes, you're kind of going in and you're accepting that when you buy them that weight savings and it doesn't last as long.
[00:26:48] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah and it's unfortunate because also you know if you have a different type of gate if you're landing a little bit more as a heel striker and fortunately you could.
[00:26:58] [SPEAKER_03]: And you know, I've actually met a person locally that has added shoe rubber on the bottom of his expensive shoes and he's made them last longer that way.
[00:27:13] [SPEAKER_01]: That's a great idea.
[00:27:14] [SPEAKER_01]: Like that's a shoe hack for sure.
[00:27:16] [SPEAKER_01]: You know, it's a great way to save money especially if you're wearing down because I'm a heel striker as I've said and for bottom of my shoes they all wear out on the heel first.
[00:27:25] [SPEAKER_01]: The race shoes not so much but all my training shoes, they wear down that lateral heel very quickly.
[00:27:32] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah and then you see that that foam that's normally white turning yellow because you've you know worn down the outside layer of it and then you have to get wet and you know what is going to happen to the shoe.
[00:27:44] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's how it goes but you know it's.
[00:27:47] [SPEAKER_01]: It is what it is the shoe companies notice that you'll see on the lateral heel edge that is part of a normal gate cycle.
[00:27:53] [SPEAKER_01]: So the companies know that they have to put a little extra rubber there on the heel because everybody will most people when they land on their lateral heel and they roll through their gate and then they pull off.
[00:28:05] [SPEAKER_01]: So there's a lot of people out there that are landing like that.
[00:28:08] [SPEAKER_01]: It seems like it's the race shoes that just neglect that extra rubber.
